In my current role I have developed (from the ground up) specialist GIS tools giving us competitive advantage when designing and specifying beam coverages of telecommunications satellites.The work environment in the aerospace industry has allowed me to obtain experience in working up to highest standards during spacecraft procurement and ground systems deployment. As a deployment specialist I'd be operating accordingly to the test planed and procedures of the client, knowing how to do that well in an is something one learns in the space industry where there is no room for the second attempt.
Previously my roles revolved around development of web sites and web services mostly using the Java stack. Some of those projects were critical systems of very high complexity and high required availability. I believe this combined experience is sufficient to quickly embrace the responsibilities of a GIS Deployment Specialist and to perform excellently shortly after.
The Deployment Specialist position excites as it presents the opportunity to work with large scale systems and diverse customers. Also the opportunity to travel while working is a very attractive part of the job.

Deployment Specialists work with Google’s customers and partners to deploy Google’s Geospatial Enterprise products, primarily Google Maps API Premier and Google Earth Enterprise, and help create the tools and processes to support deployment.You will provide technical deployment assistance and solution design to Google customers and partners. You will also work closely with Google engineers, product managers, the Geospatial support team, and pre-sales engineers to improve the product's vision and to make Google customers successful in deploying the product.
Extensive travel will be required (50% or more), including international travel.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Google customers and partners, both on-site and remotely, to design and implement solutions with Google Enteprise Geospatial products
- Deliver technical implementations and guidance for Google products like Earth Enterprise or Maps Premier API. Design and provide enablement tools and best practices to help
- Work closely with other Google teams to improve our products. Escalate issues found in projects and provide feedback about Google’s products
- Identify opportunities to drive further penetration of Google Enterprise into customer organizations, increasing business value
- Own the deployment relationship with customers which involve project management responsibilities for longer running deployments, as well as producing technical deliverables as required
Requirements:
- BA/BS degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Computer Science or Information Systems
- Recent or extensive industry experience in a customer facing role, either in corporate IT, professional services, or product development, preferrably with project experience
- Hands-on experience implementing geospatial solutions and mapping business requirements to product functions/features
- Experience developing web-based (preferably geospatial) applications with a strong understanding of web development protocols (HTML5, AJAX, XML, JSON), preferably with good understanding of Geospatial technologies (KML, GeoRSS etc)
- Good Linux system administration and scripting (Bash, Python or Perl) skills strongly preferred and experience with SQL databases highly desirable
- Proactive, can-do attitude, ability to follow-through, resourceful, and keen attention to detail
- Strong command the English language (fluency in another European language a plus)
